On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the third phase of the “Rhineland Water Conference” took place at the Hôtel d’Alsace of the European Community of Alsace (CeA). EuroBogen, which was responsible for facilitating the forum and the thematic sessions, would like to warmly thank the CeA for its trust and for the work accomplished in collaboration.

A day dedicated to the major challenges facing water and its environment
During the day, six sessions were organised to explore major water-related themes. Each of these sessions dealt with subjects that are essential to the preservation of this precious resource :
- The use of water
- Focus on the Rhin
- Water as a source of energy
- Water ecology
- Risk culture
- Water storage

During these sessions, experts and scientists from the European Community of Alsace, the Alsace-Moselle Water and Sanitation Authority, the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency, Voies navigables de France, the Alsace Chamber of Agriculture, BRGM, and the University of Strasbourg, as well as other organizations dedicated to water, exchanged their knowledge and solutions with their German and Swiss counterparts.
This cross-border dialogue has made it possible to consider new projects and identify concrete actions to preserve our water resources in the undeniable context of climate change.
A marvellous look at our region thanks to the film “Le fleuve invisible, un trésor sous la plaine du Rhin”

We had the privilege of attending a screening of the remarkable film “The Invisible River, a Treasure Beneath the Rhine Plain” directed by Serge Dumont. In just 18 minutes, this film offered us magnificent images highlighting the richness of our territory and the fragility of our ecosystem.
Speeches of hope and cross-border commitment
The close of this exceptional day was marked by inspiring speeches, full of hope and cross-border commitments. The various players present expressed their determination to work together actively to preserve our water resources and meet the environmental challenges we face.
Continuing the momentum for the next World Water Day
This day marked an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to preserve our water resources. The date for the next World Water Day has already been set for March 22, 2024. An event that all those present have already noted in their diaries, because continuing this collective momentum is essential to ensuring a sustainable future for our precious resource.

In conclusion, these Rhine Water Conferences brought together stakeholders committed to water conservation. The day was marked by fruitful discussions, the presentation of concrete solutions, and strong commitments for the future. The next step has already been set with World Water Day in 2024, an opportunity to continue the momentum and implement concrete actions to preserve this resource.
