Social workers accompany and intervene daily in conflict situations at the heart of societies. Be they in the family, neighbourhood or larger inter-group contexts, relational and practical difficulties often seem insurmountable. Lacking the means or the comprehension for the parties to solve their problems, social workers undertake increasingly the role of mediator.

Mediation courses equip the helping professions (social work, nursing, humanitarian work) with important skills to handle conflict between parties.
